Not all that far from Point Lookout in New England National Park, there is another lookout called Wright's Lookout. Unlike Point Lookout, there is a walk involved in getting to the lookout - about 2km, not far. However, on the several days that we decided to be there at sunrise it meant hiking out from the campsite in the dark, through the misty beech rainforest.
There is no real lookout point as such at Wright's Lookout - it is a large rocky outcrop that rises above the surrounding rainforest. In many ways the views are even more beautiful that at Point Lookout. There are 360° panoramic views including down to the coast, up to Point Lookout and over the beech and rainforest just below.
View looking south from Wright's Lookout, over the rest of New England NP.
Unfortunately on the three mornings that we hiked out to Wright's Lookout for sunrise, there were clouds obscuring the eastern horizon. Nevertheless, we were impressed by the closeness of the lookout to the forest below yet also the unimpeded views of the surrounding mountains.
