I’ve been thinking about panoramas lately. The more I think about it, the more I think a 6x17 ratio is much more natural to me than squarer formats. I think I’ve always found the ‘standard’ 3x2 ratio awkward for composing, and it rarely feels natural when trying to put together a composition.

How good is the view? The four of us at Tidbinbilla Mountain.
I’d been meaning to hike up to Tidbinbilla Mountain ever since my housemate Zak and I hiked up from Bendora Dam Rd three years ago and stumbled across a beautiful view, looking up the valley all the way up to Tidbinbilla Mountain and The Pimple. Its an image which remains vivid in my memory, and one which now hangs in the UC Hospital (at a length of over 2 meters!)

Bimberi Peak, or Mt Bimberi, is the highest peak in the ACT at 1912 m.a.s.l. It lies towards the south of the Brindabella Range, straddling the border between the ACT and NSW. Funnily enough, I'd never actually climbed Bimberi - perhaps because its remoter and harder to get to than many of the other Brindabella peaks such as Mt Franklin, Mt Gingera etc.

A few weeks ago I found myself on the road to Albany. I was in Western Australia to photograph the Killer Whales in the Bremer canyon, but I'd booked myself a few extra days in the area because....well, just because. I thought I'd stop in Albany to try and find some Albany pitcher plants but, as it turns out, I'm better at finding orchids than carnivorous plants.
